Encryption
You may wonder, how does Filen secures my data?
As the digital world is increasingly flooded with data, surveillance and malware, Filen has made it its mission to make personal data inaccessible and vulnerable to external attackers or even authorities.
What is Filen ?
Filen is a fully Zero Knowledge, End-To-End Encrypted cloud storage and communication platform and for every data suitable.
Zero Knowledge and End-To-End Encrypted?
You are probably wondering what these two terms mean.
The answer is very simple to understand.
Zero Knowledge simply means, that your stored data is only visible to you, the account owner. You may also find related terms like no-knowledge or zero access when searching up Zero Knowledge.
The raw data is fully encrypted and not even Filen as the cloud storage service can see what is being stored.
End-To-End Encryption (E2EE) is the term that describes the system of communication. Only the user (you) with the personal key can encrypt and decrypt the data. The encryption and decryption proccess takes place while uploading or downloading so your data always leaves your device fully encrypted and no third party (including Filen) can ever see the private data.
What Encryption does Filen use?
Filen uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256 or also known as Rijndael Galois/Counter Mode (GCM). It is a symmetric block cypher also chosen by the U.S government to protect classified information.
AES 256 uses a 256-bit key length to encrypt and decrypt a block of message/data
